Joyful Mystery — The Presentation in the Temple
(Luke 2:22–35)
Opening Prayer
Jesus, offered to the Father in the Temple,
receive my life as an offering of love.
Teach me obedience, purity of heart, and trust in God’s promises.
Amen.
Scripture
“And Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary his mother: Behold this child is set for the fall and for the resurrection of many in Israel, and for a sign which shall be contradicted.”
— Luke 2:34 (Douay-Rheims)
Seven-Senses Deep Meditation
Enter the Temple of Jerusalem.
1. Sight
You see the عظ Temple — stone, columns, smoke from sacrifice.
Mary and Joseph approach quietly, carrying the Child.
They bring the offering of the poor — two turtle doves.
Simeon, aged and radiant with hope, approaches.
2. Hearing
You hear murmured prayers, footsteps, the sounds of worship.
Simeon’s voice trembles with joy as he prays:
“Now thou dost dismiss thy servant, O Lord, in peace.”
These are the words of one who has waited his whole life.
3. Smell
Incense fills the air.
Sacrifice and prayer rise together.
This Child is both Priest and Victim.
4. Taste
The air tastes solemn, holy.
Joy is mingled with prophecy.
5. Touch
Mary places Jesus into Simeon’s aged arms.
Feel the contrast — fragile Child, trembling hands.
Eternity rests in human weakness.
6. Emotion (Interior Sense)
Simeon is fulfilled.
Mary listens in silence as the sword is foretold.
Joy and sorrow already meet.
What stirs in you as Mary hears what lies ahead?
7. Spiritual Awareness (Grace Sense)
This Child belongs to the Father.
Mary’s yes now includes suffering.
God accepts the offering — and asks for everything.
What part of your life is God asking you to place in His hands?
Rest in Silence
Remain with Simeon and Mary.
Let the prophecy sink deep.
Optional Closing Prayer
Mary, faithful Mother,
help me to trust God’s plan even when it includes the cross.
Amen.
